Published on October 22, 2019, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed concerns about the team's chances of winning the Champions League, citing their inconsistent form and lack of clinical finishing in the final third of the field.
Despite being the bookmakers' favourites to win the competition, Guardiola believes that City will be punished in the latter stages if they continue to struggle with their finishing.
"We miss a lot of chances in the final third and we have to do that, to be clinical. When the people say about the Champions League being the target, we are still not ready," Guardiola said.
Guardiola also pointed out that City's inconsistent form is partly due to their defensive struggles, which have been exacerbated by injuries to key players in the backline.
However, he remains optimistic that the team can improve their form and become a more formidable opponent in the Champions League.
"In this competition you have to be strong in the boxes and this season we are not incredibly strong in the boxes. Of course we have time," Guardiola added.
