Financial Woes Won't Derail Gor's Title Quest, Says Rachier

Despite facing financial challenges, Gor Mahia president Ambrose Dickson Rachier is optimistic that the 18-time Kenyan Premier League champions will survive and defend their title.

The club has been hit hard by the exit of their main sponsor, SportPesa, due to the government's 'unbearable' taxation policy.

Rachier acknowledged that it won't be easy, but he drew inspiration from the club's past experiences, including the 2015 season when they had no sponsor but still managed to survive.

'I'm very happy that we are still unbeaten with all the challenges. I have not paid my players for two months now. It is difficult but I remember in the 2015 season we had no sponsor but we still survived. Our demands are big but I'm hopeful we will make it,' Rachier said after Gor Mahia edged Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at the Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Sunday.

Despite the absence of captain Kenneth Muguna and his assistant Joash Onyango, Gor Mahia maintained their unbeaten record.

'I have received information Muguna has family issues but Onyango has not explained his absence in camp. We will investigate and deal with the matter accordingly. I however know the salaries issue could be playing apart,' Rachier added.

Head coach Steve Pollack has avoided discussing the absence of Muguna and Onyango, focusing instead on the team's performance against Kariobangi Sharks.

Francis Afriye, Gor Mahia's Ghanaian import, scored the only goal in stoppage time to take K'Ogalo four points clear on the KPL summit.
