On October 21, 2019, police probing the murder of Catholic Priest Michael Maingi Kyengo made a significant breakthrough in the case. The slain priest was found dead in Mnarani area, Kilifi County.

According to police, the main suspect in the murder, Michael Mutunga, had rented a house in the area just two days after the priest's murder. The police investigation led them to the house, where they recovered bank withdrawal receipts from the accounts held by the priest.

The receipts revealed that the suspect had withdrawn money from the priest's account, drawing the attention of the police in Nairobi. The police team then traveled to Kilifi to confirm who had withdrawn the money.

Upon reaching Kilifi, the police also recovered supermarket receipts for newly purchased household items worth Sh60,000. Additionally, they found clothes stained with blood, which have been sent to the government chemist for forensic analysis.

George Kinoti, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, confirmed that the garage where the deceased's vehicle was changed from black to white has been identified.

These findings are a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Catholic Priest Michael Maingi Kyengo.
