Published on October 21, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at Muisuni High School in Kangundo, Machakos County, where a school pit latrine caved in, claiming the life of one student and injuring another.
According to reports, the latrine collapsed due to heavy rains in the area. Confirming the incident, Kangundo OCPD stated that the body of the deceased had been transferred to Kangundo mortuary, awaiting funeral plans.
Residents have expressed outrage and disappointment at the Education Cabinet Secretary, Magoha, for failing to ensure quality standards of structures in schools. They have accused the school's management and the education ministry of negligence, which led to the tragic incident.
Parents have also faulted Magoha for not taking adequate measures to create a safe learning environment for learners and minors, resulting in the loss of lives.
As the community mourns the loss of a young life, they are calling for accountability and action from the education authorities to prevent such incidents in the future.
