On Sunday evening, Paul Kwenga, a 38-year-old man, left his home in Uriri, Migori County, to attend to his errands but never returned.
His body was found the next day, lying in a pool of blood near Nyambeche Primary School by area residents who were passing by the institution.
According to his brother, Bernard Owira, the body had several deep panga cuts, suggesting that Mr. Kwenga was attacked and murdered by unidentified assailants while on his way back home.
Uriri sub-county Police Commander Peter Njoroge confirmed the incident, stating that police officers have since been sent to the scene to investigate.
