Kenya's National Heroes: A League of Extraordinary Individuals

On Mashujaa Day, October 20, 2019, the nation came together to celebrate heroes who have made a significant impact on Kenya's history and global stage.

The National Heroes Council plays a crucial role in recognizing these individuals, who include freedom fighters and sports legends. Their contributions are commemorated through various means, including national and community functions.

As a national hero, one is entitled to certain benefits, including an invitation as a State guest to national and community functions. Those in need of assistance are accorded the highest attainable standard of healthcare services, accessible housing, standard sanitation, and social security.

Financial assistance from the National Heroes Assistance Fund is also available to those whose economic circumstances warrant such assistance. Their dependants also benefit from the recognition, with free education and employment opportunities offered to those with relevant qualifications.

Cultural festivals, concerts, and events can also be organized in their honor, with towns, institutions, open parks, and streets named after them.
