City Hall has announced plans to recruit 1,000 new inspectorate officers next year, a move aimed at enhancing security in the county. The recruitment drive is set to cost Sh120 million.
According to the County Annual Development Plan 2020/2021, the county currently has 1,896 inspectorate and investigative officers. The new recruits will be instrumental in enforcing compliance in traffic control, controlling hawking and boda boda activities, and enhancing revenue collections.
As part of the plan, the county government will also spend Sh200 million on the construction of a modern training facility to promote capacity building and improve service delivery. The facility will be used to train the new inspectorate officers.
Additionally, the county will spend Sh27 million on the purchase of three county motor vehicles to ensure timely response. The security and compliance department, headed by Chief Officer Tito Kilonzi, will be responsible for providing safety and security services by investigating and prosecuting crimes related to the county government of Nairobi.
City Hall is also in the process of conducting a bio-metric registration exercise aimed at capturing the exact number of workers and weeding out ghost ones. Once complete, the officers will receive new look uniforms and bio-metric cards for easier identification.
It's worth noting that Governor Mike Sonko launched a voluntary early retirement scheme last year, targeting staff aged above 50 years.
