Published on October 21, 2019, Wazito FC has made a shocking decision to sack head coach Fred Ambani and technical director Stanley Okumbi just hours after their 4-2 home defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
The decision was made after a string of poor results, including a 1-0 defeat to AFC Leopards and a 1-1 draw against Nzoia Sugar. The team is currently placed 13th on the KPL log with six points from six games.
Assistant coach Hamisi Mohammed will take over temporarily. Club CEO Dennis Gicheru expressed gratitude to the duo, saying, “I would like to thank coach Ambani and coach Okumbi for their great service to the club. They did a tremendous job during their time here and we wish them all the best.”
Wazito FC, dubbed the moneybags of KPL, had shown remarkable ambition in the off-season by signing several marquee talents, but their spending has not necessarily impacted their performances.
