On October 17, 2019, Harrison Mumia, the president of the Atheist in Kenya (AIK), sent a letter to his childhood church, Friends Quakers, in Kakamega, Kenya, requesting to revoke his baptism and membership.

Mumia, who denounced Christianity in the mid-2000s, claimed that he was baptized at the Quakers Church at Makhokho Secondary School in Kakamega County during his pre-teen years without his consent.

He demanded that the church destroy all records associated with him and provide a confirmation letter for his dismissal.

As an atheist, Mumia stated that he no longer accepts the implications of the rite of baptism.

Earlier in October, Mumia's father passed away, and on the day of his father's funeral, Mumia wrote on his Facebook page, 'In an hour, my late dad will be rested! People here think he will go to heaven!'

Mumia has been an outspoken advocate for the separation of church and state, pushing for the annulment of religious studies in schools and criticizing parents for introducing religion to their children.
