On Sunday evening, a devastating incident occurred at Muisuni High School in Kangundo, Machakos County, where a student lost their life and another was injured after the school's pit latrine collapsed.
According to Muisuni High School Director Robert Thyaka, the latrine caved in due to the heavy rains that have been witnessed in the area in recent times.
Area residents quickly responded to the scene and assisted in the rescue mission, which was later joined by police officers from Kangundo and the county fire brigade team.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kangundo OCPD Benjamin Ongombe confirmed that the body of the deceased had been transferred to the Kangundo Hospital mortuary.
The injured student was taken to the same hospital for treatment and later transferred to a Machakos hospital for a CT scan, where they were found to be in stable condition.
