Published on October 21, 2019, a report by Kaspersky Security Network revealed that Kenya is among the top 10 countries with the highest number of users attacked by mobile malware.
The IT Threat Evolution Quarter Two 2019 report ranked Kenya 10th, with a 15.38% share of users attacked by mobile malware.
This ranking is a slight drop from the previous quarter, where Kenya was ranked 9th with a 16.27% share of users attacked by malware.
Mobile malware, also known as malicious software, includes ransomware, Trojan, and Adware, which can harm computer users.
Iran topped the list with 28.31% of users attacked by various malware, including Trojan, while Bangladesh came in second with 28.1% of users encountering malware with Adware being the most common threat.
Algeria was third with 24.77% of users affected by Adware.
The findings of the report support the latest Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) report, which showed a spike in malware attacks between April and June.
According to the CA, malware cases almost tripled in nine months, reaching 21 million between April and June.
The National Kenya Computer Incident Response Team Coordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC) issued 1,586 malware threat advisories during the quarter, a 300-case increase from the previous period.
