On a recent royal tour of Africa with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, 38, shared her emotional struggles with ITV in a one-to-one interview for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.
Speaking with Tom Bradby, Meghan admitted she's "not OK" and found the past year "really challenging" as a new mum and being in the spotlight.
She explained that being pregnant and having a newborn made her feel vulnerable, and as a woman, it's a lot to handle, especially with the added pressure of being in the public eye.
"Look, any woman, especially when they're pregnant, you're really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn – you know," Meghan said.
"And especially as a woman, it's a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed, it's, well..."
When asked how she's doing, Meghan replied, "Thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm OK. But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."
Footage from the interview has gone viral on social media, inspiring the hashtag #WeLoveYouMeghan, which saw other women opening up about their own struggles and sharing messages of encouragement for Meghan.
