On September 16, 22-year-old Annette Kabarika was involved in an accident on the Kisumu-Kakamega road and taken to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital at 9pm. Her mother, Robai Adisa, claimed that they spent 30 hours pleading with medical staff for help, but it was in vain.
According to a letter summoning county officials, Vihiga Senator George Khaniri made a statement on September 25 regarding Kabarika's death, referring the matter to the Senate Standing Committee on Health to investigate and come up with a report.
County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Vitalis Juma, Health Executive Amos Kutwa, and chief officers Arnold Mamadi and Wycliffe Manyulu are expected to appear before the Senate committee on October 22.
The Senate has taken the matter seriously, with the delegation led by acting county secretary Philip Gavuna set to appear before the committee.
