DCI Detectives Nab ATM Thieves Who Swindled Over KSh 2.2 Million

On October 20, 2019, a suspect was caught red-handed withdrawing money from an ATM in Nairobi using a secret code.

According to the DCI, the suspect, Robert Mwaura Mwita, had recruited two ATM guards, Stanley Nyakundi and Godfrey Masinde Simiyu, to help him swindle unsuspecting customers.

The suspects would use secret codes to withdraw money from the ATM, and then share the loot with Mwita.

"The suspect had been working with the ATM guards who would help him withdraw money from the ATM using secret codes. After withdrawing the money, the guards would take their share and leave the suspect with the remaining amount," the DCI said in a statement.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had swindled over KSh 2.2 million from unsuspecting customers in a span of one month.

The two suspects are set to appear in court on October 22, 2019.
