On January 4, 2015, Fidel Odinga, the son of Raila Odinga, died under mysterious circumstances after a night out with friends. His widow, Lwam Bekele, discovered his lifeless body in their Karen home.
Ida Odinga, Raila's wife, has been at odds with Lwam over the administration of Fidel's estate. In a shocking twist, Ida revealed that Fidel had a secret family with Phoebe Akinyi Gweno, who allegedly delivered twins.
Phoebe Akinyi has since disowned a court suit filed by Ida, terming it malicious. In a sworn affidavit, Akinyi stated that she wants to be a party to the case to clear the air and protect the interests of her children.
The High Court had ordered a DNA test on the twins to determine if they are indeed Fidel's children. If not, it would leave the Odinga family with tough options.
Ida and her daughter Winnie are seeking to block Lwam from solely administering Fidel's estate. Lwam had petitioned the court for letters of administration, but Ida and Winnie objected, mentioning Akinyi and her children in the matter.
