On 15th October, at around 4pm, police in Nairobi arrested a man believed to be recruiting youths to join the Al-Shabaab terror group.

The suspect, identified as Abdulaziz Hassan, was apprehended in the Eestleigh area while attempting to convince some youths to join the group.

Following his arrest, Abdulaziz was detained for ten days after detectives investigating the case were granted permission by a Magistrate Court in Makadara last week.

According to the investigating officer, Abdulaziz is suspected to be a member of the terror group and is believed to have vital information regarding the recruitment of youths from Kenya to join Al-Shabaab.

The court was informed that Abdulaziz possesses a Kenyan National Identity card, which needs to be forwarded to the registrar of persons for verification.

Additionally, the suspect's phone, recovered during the arrest, will be sent to the cyber crime unit at the DCI headquarters for analysis and data recovery.
