On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in Iyabe village, Suneka area, on the Kisii-Migori road, where a pickup vehicle was set ablaze by irate residents.
According to a police report, the driver, 40-year-old Kelvin Mokaya, was heading towards Migori from Suneka in a double cabin pickup when he made a U-turn and collided with a motorcycle headed towards Suneka.
The motorcyclist, 45-year-old George Morara Atinga, and his pillion passenger, 47-year-old Peter Omari, died instantly due to the injuries sustained in the accident.
During the ensuing chaos, officers from Gesonso Police Station were forced to fire in the air to disperse the rowdy crowd, resulting in two police officers being injured and rushed to Kisii Level 6 Hospital.
The bodies of the victims were moved to Kisii Level 6 Hospital mortuary pending autopsy, while the vehicle was completely destroyed by the angry villagers.
