On October 20, 2019, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho deviated from the official Mashujaa day program, inviting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to speak first, instead of the Deputy President William Ruto.
According to the program, Joho was supposed to invite Ruto, who would then welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta to address the public.
However, Joho decided to call Raila Odinga, his party leader, before ushering in DP Ruto as per the laid program for the day.
By doing so, Joho saved the situation from potentially escalating tensions following the former Prime Minister's omission from the day's program.
