On Saturday, the Sunset Golfing Society's Nairobi edition, one of the oldest golfing societies in the country, was forced to cancel its event at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club due to heavy rain.

The rain, which started in the early afternoon, flooded the course, making it impossible for play to continue. By the time the club captain, Bernard Mwaura, stopped play, only half of the field of 250 golfers who had started in the morning had completed 18 holes.

According to Sylvester Odhiambo, the Sunset Golfing Society captain, 'We have decided to cancel the event since the greens were under water, as well as some of the fairways. We will however find a suitable date to have another event since the prizes are available.'

Meanwhile, at the Karen Country Club, Andy Starkey emerged as the overall winner of the Amref Flying Doctors Charity golf tournament with an impressive score of 42 points. Anthony Juma of Royal Nairobi came in second, while Wade Kilburn of Karen finished third with 41 points.
