Kenya's Morans rugby team, the country's second-string side, made history by stunning three-time World Rugby Seven Series champions South Africa's Blitzebokke 19-14 to win the 2019 Safari Sevens title on October 20, 2019, at the RFUEA grounds.

The Morans' victory marked their second Cup success, with their first win dating back to 2000. The team's impressive performance was led by skipper Jeff Oluoch, Geoffrey Okwatch, and Alvin Otieno, who scored crucial tries in the first half.

South Africa, who faced Morans' lethal defense, opened up in the second half to score through Mngadi Sandiso and Hufke Cameroon, but their efforts were in vain as Morans recaptured the title.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman Oduor Gangla hailed the event as largely successful, citing the participation of top World Rugby Sevens Series teams like South Africa and Spain. He also praised the turnout of over 6,000 fans, a significant improvement from the previous year's event.

Gangla acknowledged the challenges faced by the event organizers, including issues with the media centre, accreditation, and the ongoing construction on Ngong Road. However, he expressed optimism that these issues would be addressed in future events.
