On Mashujaa Day, October 20, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Eliud Kipchoge the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya, the country's highest civilian honour, at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa county.
The prestigious award was given to Kipchoge in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the world of athletics, particularly his recent feat of becoming the first human to run a marathon in under two hours.
“Eliud Kipchoge remains the greatest of our time. His latest conquest is a reminder that we can achieve our very best as individuals and collectively as a nation,” President Kenyatta said as the audience cheered.
Present at the event were Deputy President William Ruto, opposition leader Raila Odinga, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, and other distinguished leaders.
The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya is the highest honour that can be awarded to a civilian, and Kipchoge's achievement is a testament to his hard work and integrity.
