On October 20, 2019, a devastating tragedy struck the lives of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda, leaving behind a trail of grief and pain. Sheila Karembo, a Kenyan politician and close friend of Mariam, took to social media to express her condolences and share her emotional experience of visiting the morgue to pay her last respects.
Sheila Karembo's heartfelt post on Facebook read: 'I gathered some courage my friend to get into the morgue and see you, my friend. I felt like moving the cloth a little bit just to confirm it's real that you will not wake up. We lay you to rest tomorrow Mariam and Amanda. I didn't see Amanda it was hard for me. God you know why.'
As news of the tragic incident spread, Kenyans took to social media to express their condolences and share their thoughts and prayers for the family.
