This archive report was first published on 20 October 2019.

On April 2018, heavy rainfall caused the River Turkwel to burst its banks, flooding low-lying areas of Lodwar town in Turkana County.

A joint team of emergency responders, including the County Disaster Management department, the Kenya Maritime Authority, Medical officials from the Lodwar County Referral Hospital, and humanitarian organizations such as the Kenya Red Cross, were deployed to carry out rescue operations in the affected areas.

Several families were left stranded after the floods, and people living in low-lying areas were advised to move to higher ground as the short rains got underway.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological department had forecasted that most parts of the country would receive rainfall on Sunday, with strong south-easterly winds expected over Isiolo and southern parts of Marsabit counties.
