South African Woman Quits IT Job to Pursue Poultry Farming ¶
Published on October 20, 2019
Nezisa Sogoni, a 28-year-old South African woman, has made headlines for leaving her lucrative IT job to pursue her passion for poultry farming.
According to Nezisa, she was earning between KSh 70, 000 to KSh 100, 000 while working as an IT and business consultant, but the salary was never enough to quench her inner passion to rear chicken.
Nezisa started her poultry farm in June 2018 with 100 chicks, which she bought using part of the money she was saving while working. Six months later, she had managed 100 chicks, and the number has been growing tremendously ever since.
Her poultry farm produces between 200 to 500 chicks monthly in addition to 500 eggs. Nezisa revealed in her recent social media posts that she is managing between 200 to 500 chicks per month in addition to 500 eggs.
"We produce 500 eggs a month and between 200 and 500 chickens. Each egg is sold for KSh 10 and chicken are sold for KSh 700," Nezisa explained.
Nezisa's business has not only provided her with a sense of fulfillment but has also created employment opportunities for underprivileged South Africans. She has three part-time and two full-time employees at the farm, and she is looking forward to employing more as the venture expands.
"I have three part-time and two full-time employees at the farm, I am looking forward to employing more because the venture is also expanding," Nezisa said.
Nezisa's story is an inspiration to many, particularly young women, who are often discouraged from pursuing their dreams. She advised youths never to be afraid to chase their dreams in life and believe in their potentials.
"To all fellow young women, I just want to say, nothing is impossible," Nezisa said in her parting words.
