On October 20, 2019, a devastating car accident occurred off a ferry, claiming the lives of Miriam Kighenda and her daughter.
Their car slid into the Indian Ocean, and it took divers 13 days to retrieve their bodies.
According to autopsy reports, both Miriam and her daughter died of asphyxiation, a condition caused by a lack of oxygen, resulting in unconsciousness or death.
After their bodies were recovered, they were transported to their final resting place by the Sonko rescue team.
Nairobi Governor Sonko shared photos of the bodies and family members on Facebook before departing for Salama.
