Published on October 20, 2019, Kenya's national beach volleyball teams are gearing up for a challenging competition in the Continental Cup-cum-Sub Zonal Olympic qualifiers.
The men's team, led by coach Patrick Owino, will face off against Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan in Group 8. Meanwhile, the women's team will contend with Egypt, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
Coach Owino acknowledged that Rwanda and Egypt pose a significant threat to his team's chances of success. However, he expressed confidence in their training program and preparation.
"We have the training program in place, and we just await confirmation of the dates and venue for the event," Owino noted. "But I suspect the competition might be held in late December or early January."
With one pair already in place in each team, Owino is optimistic about their chances. He highlighted the experience of Gaudencia Makokha and Naomi Too, who have been training together for some time and have featured in several events, including the African Games in Morocco and the inaugural Africa Beach volleyball Games in Cape Verde.
"The experienced duo of James Mwaniki and Ibrahim Odour, who have also been together for a while, boast of a fifth-place finish during the Cape Verde event," Owino added. "With all the experience and exposure they have had, I know they will do well."
