October 20, 2019, marked a disturbing trend in Kenya, where some men are offering their wives to rich foreign tourists in exchange for money.
According to reports, these men, often tour guides, would arrange for their wives to pose as their sisters to wealthy foreigners who are looking for companionship during their stay in Kenya.
James Kimani, a tour guide, revealed that he and his wife have been engaging in this practice since August 2018, with his wife earning up to Sh40,000 monthly.
Kimani explained that the arrangement started when a tourist asked him to introduce him to a woman, and he discussed the matter with his wife, who agreed to pose as the tourist's sister.
"Yes, I have a nice, bubbly woman. She is dark-skinned, well-endowed and naughty. She is my younger sister, very single and well behaved. I can bring her tomorrow," Kimani reportedly told the tourist.
Kimani defended his actions, stating that his wife is the breadwinner and that he sees no reason to make another woman rich while his wife is jobless.
However, the practice has raised concerns about the exploitation of women and children, with Kilifi County Police Commander Patrick Okeri confirming that such cases have been reported in the coastal region.
Paul Adhuoch, the head of Trace Kenya, a child rights organization, also revealed that underage children have been engaging in sex tourism at the coast, with over 13,000 minors engaging in sexual activities annually.
