On October 19, 2019, a somber mood engulfed Mung'ala village in Kilome Constituency, Makueni county, as the community came together to lay to rest Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu.

Mariam, the wife of John Wambua, and Amanda, their second-born child, were victims of a tragic incident. Hundreds of mourners, led by Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, area MP Dan Maanzo, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, gathered to bid farewell to the two loved ones.

John Wambua, Mariam's husband, paid a touching tribute to his wife, describing her as a God-fearing, humble soul, loving and caring. He recalled their courtship period, twelve years ago, and how her kindness and Christian values had attracted him.

'One thing that attracted me during our courtship period twelve years ago was her kindness and Christian Values. When she agreed to marry me twelve years ago, I felt I was the luckiest man in the whole world,' Wambua said.

Wambua also described his daughter Amanda as a friendly and joyful girl who filled the house and brought laughter in the family. He expressed his grief, saying, 'we had a neat family full of love, laughter and prowess of a bright future.'
