On October 10, 2019, a shocking incident unfolded in Tumbafu central village, Padibe West sub county in Uganda, where Chief Charles Okee was accused of stealing and selling his wife's chicken.
According to Bosco Owachgiu, the area local council vice chairperson, Okee's wife reported the matter to their office, suspecting her husband was behind the mysterious disappearance of the bird, which she had been gifted by a friend in 2018.
"His wife reported the matter to our office. She accused him of stealing the chicken and later sold it. The wife became suspicious after it went missing for days," Owachgiu confirmed.
As the first suspect, Okee was summoned by local council officials, but he initially denied any wrongdoing.
However, more pressure mounted on him when his vice chairperson convened an emergency village meeting to deliberate on the matter, where a resident, Michael Odongo, confessed to buying some chicken from Okee at KSh 420 on October 9.
It was not easy for the local chief, who eventually pleaded guilty before his subjects, but it was not over until he received strokes that preceded his ejection from office.
On October 10, 2019, Chief Charles Okee was hounded out of office by angry villagers for stealing and selling his wife's chicken.
