On October 19, 2019, a tragic accident occurred at the Likoni Ferry channel in Kenya, claiming the lives of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda. The incident sent shockwaves across the country, leaving many in grief.
Sheila Karembo, a politician and close friend of Mariam, took to social media to share her emotional experience of viewing Mariam's body at the Jocham mortuary. In a heartfelt post, Karembo described how she gathered the courage to enter the morgue and confirm Mariam's passing.
"I gathered some courage my friend to get into the morgue and see you, my friend. I felt like moving the cloth a little bit just to confirm it’s real that you will not wake up. We lay you to rest tomorrow Mariam and Amanda. I didn’t see Amanda it was hard for me. God you know why."
