On October 18, 2019, a Kakamega police officer sparked controversy after accusing his superiors of harassment, claiming that he is from a small community in Turkana County and has been unfairly assigned to areas with no resources.
According to reports, the officer had gone public with his grievances, stating that he has been subjected to harassment and intimidation by his superiors.
However, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has since ordered the officer to undergo a mental evaluation, citing that the officer's actions were not in line with police protocol.
"Malalamiko yake yalifaa kupitia vyombo vinavyofaa. Afisa wa polisi hafai kuweka malalamiko yake hadarani na kuonyesha hasira zake. Nimetoa amri afisa huyo kupelekwa hospitalini kuchunguzwa akili. Tunatatua suala hilo bila ya porojo," Mutyambai said.
The officer's claims of harassment have sparked a heated debate, with many questioning whether he was genuinely being targeted or if he was simply seeking attention.
