Published on October 19, 2019, the burial ceremony of Mariam Kighenda and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu is underway in Salama, Makueni county.
Mariam's widower John Wambua and son Alvin are present at the ceremony.
On the day of her tragic death, Mariam had spoken to her husband on the phone, barely half an hour before she and her daughter drowned at the Likoni Ferry Channel.
Defending his wife, Wambua said, 'HOW COULD SHE KILL HERSELF.' He added, 'I WOULD NOT WANT TO CONCLUDE WHAT REALLY HAPPENED, I’M ONLY ASKING THE POLICE TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER.'
The Makueni county governor Kivutha Kibwana is among the hundreds of mourners attending the burial.
Family and friends have eulogized Mariam as loving, God-fearing, jovial, hardworking, forgiving and welcoming.
