Published on October 19, 2019, Kenya Railways launched the new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) commuter train between Ngong and Nairobi, but with a caveat: it will only operate on weekdays.
The train, which was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta, will ferry passengers from Nairobi to Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Maai Mahiu, and Suswa.
However, the new Ongata Rongai station has been criticized for its remote location, with some calling it the 'railroad to nowhere' due to its end point in a remote village.
Residents and commuters have also raised concerns about the station's proximity to residential areas and the poor state of the access roads leading to it.
As a result, commuters will be forced to use boda bodas to reach the station, then board the train, alight, and use either the interlink train or matatu to reach the city center.
