Makueni County Prepares for Burial of Mariam Kighenda and Daughter

On October 19, 2019, the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu arrived in Makueni County, ahead of their burial.

The bodies were transported from Jocham mortuary in Mombasa on the night of October 18, 2019, in a privately hired hearse.

They were received in Makueni by a group of boda boda riders who then led the convoy to the deceased's home.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, his deputy Adelina Mwau, and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior were among the leaders in attendance.

Other leaders expected to grace the ceremony included Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Nairobi County boss Mike Sonko.

Mike Sonko had initially offered to provide the family with a hearse for free, accompanied by a free mobile clinic van.

However, the Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) also gave the family KSh 200,000 for burial arrangements.

According to an autopsy result released by government pathologist Johanse Odour on October 16, 2019, Mariam and her daughter suffocated to death.
