On a thrilling opening day at the RFUEA ground, Kenya's Shujaa and Morans set the tone for their Safari Sevens campaigns, securing convincing wins in their respective matches.
Shujaa, led by coach Paul Feeney, made a strong comeback after a slow start, eventually defeating Zambia 31-0 in Pool 'C'. Collins Injera marked his return to Safari Sevens after a seven-year hiatus with two tries, which sparked the team's resurgence.
'Shujaa were rusty in the first three minutes and couldn't get to the rucks. But I am glad they stepped up to control the game with good defence,' said Shujaa coach Paul Feeney.
For Injera, the experience was a dream come true: 'It feels great playing at home for the first time since 2012. It's every player's joy and dream.'
Meanwhile, Morans secured a 24-10 victory over Burundi in Pool 'A', with Geoffrey Okwatch scoring a brace of tries. The match was part of a thrilling Pool 'A' duel, where Blitzbokke thrashed Burundi 61-0.
Red Wailers from the United Kingdom caused a major upset by stunning champions Samurai 19-5, while Western Province started their campaign on a good note, beating Russia's Narvskaya Zastava 19-17 in Pool B.
