On October 19, 2019, a devastating tragedy struck the family of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda, whose car sank into the Indian Ocean.
According to autopsy reports, both Mariam and Amanda died of asphyxiation, a condition caused by being deprived of oxygen, resulting in unconsciousness or death.
The bodies were transported from Jocham mortuary in Mombasa to their final resting place by the Sonko rescue team.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko shared photos of the bodies and family members before departing for Salama on Facebook, offering condolences to the family in a heartfelt message.
"To the widower, Mr. John Wambua, and the young son, Alvin, we are together in this difficult moment. I know this is the moment you are really feeling the pain but tuko pamoja," read Sonko's message to Mariam's husband.
