On October 5, 2019, a 40-year-old Catholic priest from Machakos went missing from his parents' home in Tala. His disappearance was reported to the KBC police station on October 7, but it wasn't until later that his body was recovered from a riverbed in Mbeere South, Embu County.
According to The Standard, the priest's body was found mutilated, stashed in a sack, and buried in the riverbed. The gruesome discovery sent shockwaves through the community, with family members struggling to come to terms with the news.
Investigations into the murder took a dramatic turn when the prime suspect, a 25-year-old nursery school teacher, confessed to having a romantic relationship with the priest. The suspect's claims were backed by romantic text messages found on the priest's phone, which referred to the suspect as 'my love.'
Detectives also discovered that the priest was killed inside a rented room in Embu that belonged to the suspect. A knife believed to have been used in the murder was retrieved from a nearby latrine.
