Published on October 19, 2019, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has spoken candidly about the challenges she faced as a new mother under intense media scrutiny.

After marrying Prince Harry in May 2018, Markle gave birth to their son Archie in May 2019. However, the couple's joy was short-lived as they faced increasingly hostile media coverage.

Speaking to ITV during their recent tour of southern Africa, Markle revealed that she felt vulnerable and struggled to cope with the pressures of motherhood.

'Not many people have asked if I'm OK,' she said, highlighting the lack of support she received during a difficult time.

Markle added: 'And especially as a woman, it's a lot. And also, thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm OK. But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.'

When asked if it would be fair to say that it had 'really been a struggle,' Markle replied: 'Yes.'

Her comments come after the couple launched legal action against the Mail on Sunday for invasion of privacy, with Harry recalling the hounding of his mother Diana.

Harry told ITV that the memories of what happened to his mother were a 'wound that festers,' and that every time he saw a camera or heard a click, it took him back to the painful memories of her life.
