Published on October 19, 2019, the Kenyan Premier League resumed after the international break with a double-header in Machakos. The financially-stricken league saw second-placed AFC Leopards (10 points) hoping to temporarily leapfrog rivals Gor Mahia at the top of the table when they tackled Western Stima in a late kick-off tie.
Western Stima was AFC Leopards' next opponent in Machakos, preceded by an early fixture between Wazito and Kakamega Homeboyz at 2pm. Another joint second-placed side, KCB, would be away to Nakuru to clash with Ulinzi Stars, while Bandari sought to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Sofapaka against Chemelil Sugar at Mbaraki Stadium.
However, the Chemelil Sugar match was doubtful as the team had not travelled by late yesterday, and Sony Sugar were also unlikely to honour their match against Tusker. Chemelil Sugar's assistant coach, Charles Odero, said, 'We are not sure if we will travel to Mombasa because we have not yet received clearance from the management.'
Despite their financial woes, AFC Leopards coach Cassa Mbungo urged his charges to put their issues behind them ahead of the Stima encounter. 'You all know the situation we are in right now. Unlike us, Stima are financially stable, but I think it will be a tough match for both teams,' he said.
