After a long break, Kenya's top boxers are back in action as the National Boxing League heads to Nanyuki Social Hall for its fourth leg, which starts on Thursday and runs until Saturday.
The three-day event will see nine counties - Nakuru, Kisumu, Siaya, Mombasa, Laikipia, Busia, Vihiga, Meru, and Kakamega - compete against seasoned teams, including defending champions Kenya Police, former champions Kenya Defence Forces, and Kenya Prisons, alongside Nairobi County.
Other teams expected to participate include Kibra, Dallas Muthurwa, Githurai 44, Kentract, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Oscar Kassongo Sports Academy (OKSA).
Nakuru will be led by welterweight Silas Ouma and middleweight Mike Jared.
According to Boxing Federation of Kenya Technical Director Albert Matito, the Nanyuki event will serve as one of the selection trials to identify probable boxers for the African Olympic qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal, in January.
Matito emphasized the importance of the final two legs of the league championships, stating, "Let the boxers take the final two legs of the league championships seriously as they will be used by a pool of National Selectors to come up with a provisional squad that will finally be whittled down to 10 boxers to take part in the African Olympic qualifiers."
