Published on October 19, 2019, the seventh edition of the Biro Lich Basketball tournament is set to kick off at Jomo Kenyatta Sports grounds in Kisumu today.
Ulinzi Warriors and USIU-Ladies, the reigning champions, will face stiff competition from over 20 teams, including newcomers like Kisumu Lakeside and LadyBucks.
Ulinzi Warriors' head coach William Balozi has expressed confidence in his team's ability to retain the title, citing their strong performance in the KBF Premier League.
'Our target is to retain the trophy we won last year. The boys are raring to go after finishing top of the basketball premier league table and we will use this tourney to gauge our team ahead of the play-offs,' Balozi said.
USIU-A Flames' counterpart Cliff Owuor is also optimistic about his team's chances, despite their poor form in the league.
'We are the defending champions and we are going to Kisumu to win. We have not had a wonderful season in the Premier League but I am confident we will perform well. Our journey for survival starts by winning this tournament,' Owuor said.
