On October 16, 2019, a gazette notice was published re-appointing Robert Kochalle to serve as a member of the Kenya Film Classification Board for three years, despite his passing in May 2018.
However, this decision was met with widespread criticism and outrage from Kenyans online, prompting Information Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru to release a new gazette notice rectifying the error.
The new notice replaced Kochalle with his widow Charity Kochalle, alongside Gathoni Kung'u and Nereah Aluoch Okanga, as members of the board.
Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua attributed the mistake to an administrative mix-up following the transfer of the board from the Ministry of Sports and Culture to another government ministry.
According to Mutua, the error was not a result of a deliberate action by CS Mucheru, but rather an oversight that was blown out of proportion.
