Published on October 18, 2019, a murder case involving lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda, and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri has taken a new turn.
Chief Inspector Robert Owino, who investigated the case, denied allegations that he tried to persuade one of the accused persons, Sylvia Wanjiku, to become a witness.
During cross-examination by lawyer Katwa Kigen, Mr. Owino stated, 'No, I never tried reaching out to her.'
He further testified that there was a systematic conspiracy by the accused persons to cover up the murders.
Mr. Owino explained that the accused persons failed to indicate in official records that the three victims were detained in cells, which suggested that they knew something sinister was happening.
He also stated that he was satisfied with the work police did 'in the circumstances' and that they charged the right persons.
The victims were kidnapped after leaving the Mavoko Law Courts on June 23, 2016, and their bodies were retrieved a week later from Athi River near Ol Donyo Sabuk police post.
