NRG Radio Backtracks on Kipchoge Radio Name Change

NRG Radio, a Nairobi-based station that covers two-thirds of Kenya, has changed its name from Kipchoge Radio after Eliud Kipchoge's lawyer, Donald Kipkorir, served the station with a demand letter.

On October 18, 2019, NRG Radio announced that it would rebrand to Kipchoge Radio for the Mashujaa Day weekend, citing Kipchoge's world-beating achievement in the INEOS Challenge.

However, Kipchoge's lawyer, Donald Kipkorir, demanded that NRG Radio pull down Kipchoge's name, images, and references from all its social media and online platforms within two hours.

NRG Radio has since pulled down Kipchoge's name and replaced it with Mashujaa Radio, sparking mixed reactions from Kenyans on Twitter.

Some Twitter users criticized NRG Radio for misusing the Mashujaa name, while others defended the station's decision to change its name in celebration of Kipchoge's achievement.
