On October 18, 2019, Lamu Principal Magistrate Sitati Temba handed down life sentences to three men in Makindu law courts for defiling minors.
The accused, Daniel Kahindi (21) from Nzavoni, Boniface Maundu (50) from Kasasule village in Kibwezi, and Mutunga Munywoki (27) from Kalawa in Nzaui sub-county, will spend the rest of their lives in prison for their crimes.
According to the principal magistrate, the accused were not remorseful for their actions, and such cases are rampant in the area.
Temba stated, "The accused is not repentant of his deeds," while sentencing Maundu.
Additionally, a middle-aged man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for defiling and impregnating a schoolgirl in the same court.
The Makindu law courts have been tackling defilement cases since Monday, as part of the Children's Week celebrations.
Since 2017, the region has registered over 200 defilement cases.
