ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has taken swift action to rectify a mistake that sparked outrage among Kenyans. On October 18, 2019, Mucheru announced the reappointment of Robert Kochalle, who had passed away on May 29, 2018, while serving as a director of the Kenya Film and Classification Board.

However, it has now been revealed that the reappointment was an error, and Mucheru has released a new gazette notice to rectify the situation. The late Robert Kochalle has been replaced by his widow, Charity, who will serve alongside Nareah Okanga and Gathoni Kung'u at the film board.

The mixup came days after Kenyans expressed disappointment towards the appointment of Mary Wambui as the chair of the National Employment Authority. Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja had introduced the bill that birthed the agency and claimed that Wambui was old and unqualified for the position.

Board chairman Ezekiel Mutua defended Mucheru's decision, stating that the reappointment was an error and not the CS's mistake. He explained that the conversation started when the KFCB was under the Ministry of Sports and Culture.
