Nairobi's Most Expensive Ditch: A Viral Sensation ¶
On October 17, 2019, a tweet from a concerned Kenyan on Twitter sparked a mixed reaction in the vast community of Kenyans on Twitter.
The tweet, which has since gone viral, highlighted a tunnel dug across Ngong Rd that trapped high-end vehicles, including a Range Rover Sport, V8, and an FJ Cruiser.
According to the tweet, the tunnel was dug across Ngong Rd and left unmarked, trapping 444 rated machines.
Here are some of the reactions to the tweet:
- Trapping high-end car's? - Amos K. Kibet (@Kosowerjnr)
- That ditch is swallowing serious rides only? - David loki (@lish2loki)
- High-end ditch probably - A.A (@S_adamzz)
- The ditch has expensive taste. - Agufana liko (@agufanaliko)
- Kwani hakuna probox na nduthi - sammy (@sammy_kg)
Some users even suggested that the ditch was organized and planned by insurance cartels, lawyers, and KURA folks to create a 'normal' accident scene so that the owners file for claims.
Others called for the contractor to be sued for not putting up the proper signage to notify road users.
As of October 18, 2019, the tweet had sparked a heated debate among Kenyans on Twitter, with some users even suggesting that the ditch was part of a larger project undertaken by the Chinese and fully funded by the Kenyan government.
