On Friday, October 18, 2019, Reuben Katana of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) clinched the Ganda ward seat in Kilifi County by-elections.
Katana garnered 4,177 votes, defeating Abdul Omar, an independent candidate who came second with 2,331 votes, while Jubilee Party's Joseph Kiponda trailed behind with 589 votes.
The campaigns for the Ganda ward had turned chaotic, resulting in the death of one person and the subsequent arrest of Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, who is out on a Ksh.500,000 cash bail.
Jumwa and her bodyguard, Geoffrey Okuto, are alleged to have stormed an ODM agents meeting at Reuben Katana's home, where the deceased, Katana's uncle, was present.
Elsewhere, Jubilee's Stephen Nakeno took the Loyangalani seat in Marsabit County after garnering 1,522 votes, while Kenya African Union (KANU) candidate Aaron Lesiantam followed with 1,048 votes.
In Garissa County, Sheikh Mohammed Ali of ODM won the Abakile Ward seat after bagging 1,961 votes, while Jubilee's Abdiwahab Osman came in second with 155 votes, and KANU's Hussein Maalim took third place with 27 votes.
Mutungoni Ward in Machakos County was clinched by Musee Mati of the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party, who garnered 2,892 votes, defeating Wiper party's Stephen Kithuka, who got 2,147 votes.
