On October 18, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge, the world marathon record holder, issued a stern warning to NRG Radio for using his name and image without his consent.
Through his lawyer, Donald B. Kipkorir, Kipchoge demanded that the radio station remove all references to him from their platforms within two hours.
The radio station was also asked to issue an apology for violating Kipchoge's rights and misusing his name, image, and reputation.
NRG Radio had recently rebranded itself as 'Kipchoge Radio' and was running a social media challenge where they promised to gift Kipchoge a BMW i8 if they reached one million followers on Instagram by October 17.
According to a letter written by Kipkorir, NRG Radio had fraudulently informed their listeners and followers that by following them on Instagram, they would gift Kipchoge a car, which he never asked for.
