Heavy rains have claimed four lives in Marakwet East, with a family of four being buried in the debris on Friday morning.

The recovery exercise is ongoing, with the region receiving heavy rains as part of the country's ongoing weather crisis.

According to the latest weather forecast released by the Red Cross on Thursday evening, the downpour is expected to continue for four days in several parts of the country.

Residents of Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Narok, Migori, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, and parts of Kajiado, Marsabit, Mandera, and Wajir are also at risk.

Police say recovery efforts are ongoing, and the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of the possibility of floods, landslides, and storms.

As reported by the Red Cross, 'Floods may suddenly appear even in places where it has not rained heavily, and they can be deeper and faster than they look, especially in semi-arid and urban areas.'

Four people also died in Kitui County after their vehicle was washed away while trying to cross a flooded seasonal river.
